Discover Bieszczady in snowshoes

Most of us spend our lives finding our paths, staying on track and mapping out plans. Small wonder then that once we get some time off, we yearn for that off the beaten track experience, that unique sense of being off course and loving it. And it does not get more off beat and off course than Bieszczady. Blatantly flouting trails and pathways, you can just strap on your snowshoes and go into the wild.

The principle of the snowshoe has remained the same for roughly 6000 years. From the rugged trappers of yore to the intrepid hikers of now, the philosophy has been: if it ain’t broke why fix it? Sure, materials change, and now we use lightweight composites instead of twine and sticks, but essentially the idea remained unchanged. And this simplicity is the greatest thing about snowshoeing. It is the easiest way for people of all ages to enjoy snow - it can be as easy or as rigorous as you like. The added bonus being that compared to skiing and snowboarding it is gentle on the body's muscles and joints. As all snowshoeing enthusiasts will tell you: if you can walk, you can snowshoe!

Snow in Bieszczady is no joke. The paths and trails become pretty much impassable for normal hikers in the winter months. Many are discouraged by the difficulty of exploring the winter Bieszczady and miss out on the breath-taking beauty of their vast pastures and wavy slopes in their winter guise. But not snowshoers! Unhindered by deep snow, effortlessly conquering snow-drifts, they can make the most of the winter wonderland on their own or as a group on one of the tours offered by the snowshoe rental establishments, which can be found in all major towns of Bieszczady - Zagórz, Ustrzyki Dolne, Wetlina, Polańczyk, Cisna.

Birdwatching tours, guided hiking tours, night owl-spotting, wildlife tracking, and even live-action role playing games - are all on offer all in the stunning winter Bieszczady setting, and all made possible thanks snowshoes.
